According to market research by Counterpoint, Micromax has become the largest mobile phone supplier in India with 16.6 per cent market share followed by Samsung with 14.4 per cent market share in the quarter ended June 2014. Micromax?s strong distribution network and growing brand awareness as well as wide-range of low cost handsets has been the key drivers for company?s success in the Indian market.

The company leads in feature phone category with 15.2 per cent share of the total market followed by Nokia capturing 14.7 per cent of the market. Meanwhile, Karbonn holds 11.4 per cent of the market followed by Samsung (8.5 per cent) and Lava (7.3 per cent).

For the April-June quarter 2014, Micromax also became the second largest smartphone brand in terms of shipments with a 19.1 per cent share after Samsung which had a market share of 23.5 per cent. Meanwhile, Lava had a market share of 5.9 per cent in the smartphone shipments to India during the reported quarter, followed by Motorola (4.3 per cent) and Nokia (4 per cent).

The research study further states that the Indian mobile phone market grew by 2 per cent year on year in the quarter ended June 2014. Although, the demand for feature phones dipped by 16 per cent annually in April-June 2014, the smartphone market grew by 68 per cent year on year during the period under consideration.
