The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) will hold a consultation with industry stakeholders on the recently enacted Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, soon. The consultation meeting will be chaired by Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

According to industry sources, the government is likely to come out with a graded timeline for the implementation of rules under the Act. The government is also ready with a broad draft of the 21 rules under the Act.

Big tech companies will reportedly get less time than start-ups and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), government departments and other state governments to implement the rules under the Act.
