According to industry sources, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is likely to issue frequently asked questions (FAQs) pertaining to the new IT rules for social media companies in the next 1-2 weeks.
The set of FAQs would address 10-20 questions. It would touch upon various aspects of the new rules, including the measures, how the norms would benefit users of social media platforms, and any other clarification that stakeholders may have.
The new rules announced in May 2021 require significant social media intermediaries to follow additional due diligence, including the appointment of a chief compliance officer, nodal contact person and resident grievance officer.
