The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has extended the last date for public comments on the draft Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Bill 2022 to January 2, 2023. The earlier deadline for submission of comments was December 17, 2022.
According to the ministry, it has decided to extend the last date for receipt of comments till the said date in response to the requests received from several stakeholders.
MeitY released the draft of the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill 2022 in November 2022. According to the government, the purpose of the draft bill is to provide for the processing of digital personal data in a manner that recognises both the right of individuals to protect their personal data and the need to process personal data for lawful purposes and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
