The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has stated that it would look into the competition issues in digital markets while the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) will deal with technical and sector-specific issues.
This draws a line between the responsibilities of the two ministries when it comes to regulating digital intermediaries like Facebook, Google, Twitter, etc.
The decision was made during a meeting held between MCA and MeitY on the proposed digital competition law. The meeting discussed concerns regarding systematically important digital intermediaries (SIDIs).
