Malaysia’s largest mobile company, Maxis Communication, has posted a slightly weaker than expected 14 per cent increase in its April-June 2006 quarter profit. ?? to $122.5 million from $107 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. This was possible due to strong inroads into the fast-growing Indian market (Maxis currently owns 75 per cent stake in Aircel). Faced with a saturated domestic market, Maxis and its rivals, Telekom Malaysia and DiGi.Com, have fought it out in a price war to win customers.
