Malaysia-based YTL Communications has selected Samsung Electronics to provide telecom equipment to help in building the operator’s nationwide network and expand its in-building coverage. According to the deal, Samsung will provide 500 mobile Wi-Max radio base stations to increase coverage on the eastern coast of Malaysia and 2,500 smaller base station units, including 2,000 picocell units, for in-building network coverage. Besides base stations, Samsung will also offer a next-generation integrated platform, IP multimedia subsystem, and devices including the mobile internet device, notebook PCs and smartphones.

YTL is expected to commercially launch its mobile Wi-Max service, including voice over internet protocol (VOIP), in the major cities of the country by July 2010, and has plans of operating nationwide by end 2010.
