The Manufacturers? Association for Information Technology, in collaboration with KPMG, has launched a report titled, Indian Market Place- IT The Unrealised Potential.

As per the report, the IT hardware industry in India can make a substantial impact by undertaking measures such as reducing hardware costs by 43 per cent with the help of government subsidies, reducing the total cost of ownership of a PC and broadband solutions (currently estimated to be approximately Rs 15,650 per annum) and providing income tax exemption to individuals against PC purchases.

The report estimates that between financial years 2014 and 2018, desktop and notebook sales can increase at a CAGR of between 6 and 18 per cent, contributing additional GDP of Rs 663 billion, taxes of Rs 250 billion and generate new employment for 1,11,600 people.
