US vendor Lucent Technologies has signed a three-year agreement valued at up to $500 million to provide regional US operator MetroPCS with CDMA 20001x EV-DO (evolution-data optimised) equipment. MetroPCS will deploy Lucent infrastructure in Dallas, Detroit and Tampa/Sarasota, while the vendor’s solutions will be deployed to increase capacity and coverage in the greater Miami, San Francisco, Atlanta, Sacramento and Tampa metropolitan areas. Lucent will supply the Flexent Packet Switch, which lays the foundation for MetroPCS to introduce VoIP services and Flexent CDMA2000 base stations.
