L&T Semiconductor Technologies Limited (LTSCT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), has announced its foray into the cellular internet of thing (IoT) module business, marking a significant expansion of its semiconductor portfolio.
The company unveiled its first cellular IoT module, powered by Qualcomm. The module will be manufactured in collaboration with Indian electronics manufacturing services (EMS) partners to ensure scalability and quality for deployments in India as well as overseas markets.
As per the company, the move into the IoT module segment represents an upward shift in the value chain, with the company offering ready-to-integrate solutions that help customers shorten development timelines, lower research and development (R&D) costs, and accelerate time to market.
Further, the company believes that the new portfolio will enable original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and device makers to quickly integrate pre-certified 4G modules into smart devices such as energy meters, industrial sensors and connected vehicles. This is expected to significantly speed up product development and reduce R&D investment requirements for manufacturers, while addressing both domestic and global demand.
