According to the Minister of State for Electronics and IT, in a written reply to Lok Sabha on July 23, 2025, India’s production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for large scale electronics manufacturing (LSEM) has attracted a cumulative investment of Rs 123.90 billion and generated production worth Rs 8.45 trillion till June 2025.
The Minister stated that mobile phone exports from India rose 127-fold over the past decade, from Rs 15 billion in 2014-15 to Rs 2 trillion in 2024-25. Of the total production, exports accounted for Rs 4.66 trillion, while the scheme also created 0.13 million direct jobs.
Further, the minister highlighted that the PLI scheme, primarily aimed at promoting mobile phone manufacturing, significantly reduced import dependence. In 2014-15, 75 per cent of domestic mobile phone demand was met through imports, a figure that has now declined to just 0.02 per cent in 2024–25.
