In a meeting held with Anshu Prakash, secretary (telecom), Department of Telecommunications (DoT), satcom industry body, SIA-India has proposed that a level playing field and regulations are required to spur sector growth.

There is an immediate need to provide a level playing field as well as regulations that are growth conducive for the industry and economically viable for both the industry and consumers, SIA-India said.

Further, SIA-India stated that a conducive policy framework should include investment-friendly regulatory fee structure as well as spectrum rights that follow the International Radio Regulations (RR) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in the KA band (27.5-29.5 GHz). Moreover, the industry body called for gateways that serve friendly neighbouring countries and clear policies regarding satellite gateways.

Additionally, SIA-India suggested that state governments could promote a technology park approach or cluster-based approach, similar to the automobile industry, where other companies grow around major companies in industrial hubs, enabling the sharing of technology and knowhow for manufacture, standardisation and quality assurance.
