As per industry sources, leading Internet companies including Google, Facebook and WhatsApp along with large home-grown platforms like Sharechat and Koo have complied with the new IT rules and have responded to the government letter providing details of their chief compliance officer, nodal contact person and grievance officer.

Similarly, platforms such as Telegram and LinkedIn, which have a large presence in India, have also shared these details with the government.

However, Twitter has not yet complied with the requirements.

Earlier this month, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has directed all social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp to report their status on compliance with the new IT rules. As part of this compliance report, the ministry has sought details of the chief compliance officer and the resident grievance officer appointed by digital platforms under the new rules.
