Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman, Aditya Birla Group (ABG) reportedly held a meeting with Ashwini Vaishnaw, union minister for telecommunications and electronics and information technology to discuss a relief package for the crisis-hit telecom sector.

As per industry sources, Birla and Vaishnaw discussed how the industry is faring and what interventions are required from the government.

The centre is reportedly exploring ways to allow cash-strapped telecom companies such as Vodafone Idea Limited and Bharti Airtel to clear their adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues over 20 years, and has sought a legal opinion. Moreover, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) may cut licence fees and extend the payment moratorium for spectrum bought in auctions by two more years.
