Korea Telecom has launched Wi-Bro on a test basis for about 200 of its employees in Seoul. This new technology uses 2.3 GHz wireless spectrum and allows downstream data transfer of up to 3 Mbps. If the initial rollout of Wi-Bro goes well, commercial availability will be extended to thousands of people later this spring.

The technology is set to be fully commercialised in June 2006, at which time it will provide another wireless data option, alongside Korea Telecom’s existing 3G mobile network.
