Kolkata Metro Railway has commissioned the terrestrial trunked radio (TETRA) communication system on the blue line (Belgachia-Rabindra Sarovar) and yellow line (Noapara-Jai Hind Bimanbandar) underground sections. The system was inaugurated by the metro railway general manager at Baranagar station on August 26, 2025.
Supplied and implemented by Motorola Solutions Private Limited, the TETRA system includes fixed stations, vehicle-mounted units, and handheld radios, ensuring reliable coverage across underground tunnels, elevated viaducts, and surface sections. It is designed to strengthen the metro’s ability to respond swiftly to emergencies, enhancing passenger safety.
The network has also been integrated with the purple line (Joka-Majerhat) and orange line (New Garia-Beleghata), creating a unified communication platform across all four operational metro corridors. This integration enables seamless connectivity for train operations, emergency response, and system monitoring.
