Kerala Fibre Optic Network Limited (KFON), the Kerala government’s flagship broadband initiative, has been granted a Category A internet service provider (ISP) licence by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The licence allows KFON to offer internet services across India, marking a significant milestone in its national ambitions.

With an extensive network already established across Kerala, KFON now plans to expand to other states and collaborate with leading ISPs to deliver seamless nationwide connectivity. The company views the ISP-A licence as a key enabler for enhancing its services and extending its digital infrastructure beyond Kerala.

According to KFON, many banks and corporate clients based outside the state require service providers to hold an ISP-A licence to participate in tenders. The company applied for the licence to meet these eligibility norms. While national expansion is on the cards, KFON will first focus on fully saturating the Kerala market before launching operations in other states.
