KDDI is reportedly planning to invest 200 billion yen over the next three years on upgrading its wireless network. The enhanced mobile network, Rev. A, will allow customers to send pictures and videos from their handsets to other handsets or computers at a speed about 10 times faster than that at present. Japan’s mobile companies are under pressure to boost their capital spending as number portability will soon come into effect, giving more options to customers. This will increase the need for telecom companies to come up with innovations to attract customers to stay with them.
