Karbonn Mobiles has formed a joint venture with China-based Water World Technology Company Limited, to set up a handset assembly plant in Greater Noida. The joint venture is called Million Club Manufacturing (MCM) and the facility has been set up with an initial investment of Rs 500 million. The facility is spread across 150,000 square feet area and employs 2,000 technicians.

The plant will initially manufacture 1.5 million units a month for Karbonn and it will be scaled up to 3 million units a month with an investment of Rs 1 billion within 2015. According to Karbonn Mobiles, the manufacturing unit will be a great opportunity to mobile companies to start local production. This is the second such contract-handset manufacturing plant to come up in the country. Earlier in July 2015, Noida-based Global Device Networks has signed an agreement with HTC to manufacture low to mid-priced phones from India on a contract basis.
