Prashant Bhushan, senior Supreme Court counsel has commented that Kapil Sibal, Minister of Telecommunications and IT?s statement that the Comptroller and Auditor General?s (CAG) report was erroneous, puts A. Raja in the clear.
He added that Sibal’s statement indicated the extent to which he is willing to defend the government and operators. Moreover, he said this threw light on the conflict of interests in the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Sibal was an inappropriate choice to lead the DoT.
Bhushan also said that Sibal?s statement that the expansion of networks implied no loss to the government is falsified by the fact that the original companies (which were allocated 2G spectrum) sold their companies at substantial profits to players who are currently operating in the telecom space.
