Kapil Sibal, Minister of Telecommunications and IT has given an in-principle approval to the draft National Frequency Allocation Plan 2011, aimed at achieving efficient spectrum management and higher mobile penetration in rural areas.

The Plan also aims to boost the domestic manufacturing of telecom equipment and efficient utilisation of spectrum.

The Wireless Planning Commission (WPC) had issued the draft plan in March 2011.

It is believed that the plan will be placed before a Group of Ministers within a month. Thereafter, it will be sent to the Cabinet for approval.
