Julian Gorman is the Head of Asia Pacific (APAC) at GSMA, where he leads the organisation’s efforts to drive digital transformation, enhance consumer protection and promote sustainable telecom growth across the Asia-Pacific region. His role involves engaging with mobile operators, governments and ecosystem stakeholders to accelerate regulatory modernisation and strengthen digital trust.

With over two decades of global experience in the telecommunications sector, he has led strategic initiatives spanning sectors such as wholesale, business, regulatory policy, digital transformation and cross-border partnerships. He is passionate about leveraging telecom innovations to foster inclusive digital economies and ensure that technology serves the greater good. His focus includes advancing 5G adoption, bridging the digital usage gap and championing secure, inclusive networks.

As GSMA’s APAC Head, Gorman’s remit covers regulatory modernisation. He champions policies that catalyse innovation across telecom ecosystems and is responsible for guiding strategic dialogues with mobile operators, government entities and other stakeholders to address the evolving digital landscape. When asked about his management style, he says, “I lead with a non-hierarchical, action-driven management style that emphasises integrity, ownership and collaboration. By prioritising direct communication, shared ownership and continuous collaboration, I ensure that our teams remain aligned,  agile and focused on delivering impactful outcomes across the region.”

He is committed to empowering stakeholders to build resilient networks and promote economic resilience. He is also an advocate for regulatory updates that balance growth with security, emphasising international cooperation to combat cybercrime.

Gorman is particularly inspired by the rapid pace of innovation in APAC, where countries such as India are developing scalable digital solutions. “Witnessing India’s drive to champion an open and secure digital ecosystem – from pioneering spam filters to scalable, low-cost public infrastructure like UPI – is a testament to the transformative power of mobile technology and the imperative for leaders with a vision and the commitment to execute,” he opines.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, he is a sports enthusiast.
