Joseph Sudheer Reddy Thumma, chief executive officer (CEO), Magellanic Cloud (MCloud), embarked upon his professional journey by assisting his uncle in automating his office management system. He then moved to Singapore and worked with IBM in its AS400/Mainframe Applications division. He also had a brief stint with National Panasonic before he moved to the US, where he resided for over 20 years.

Throughout his career, Thumma has held various positions in companies such as Diversified Investment Advisors, Verizon, Swiss Re and JP Morgan Chase. He also served as the CEO of Advanced Knowledge Technologies before venturing into entrepreneurship in 2007. In 2010, he founded JNIT Technologies, which has expanded significantly and now employs over 1,200 people across the US, Mexico, Canada and India. Subsequently, he founded Magellanic Cloud in 2017.

When asked about his most memorable assignment, he says, “One of my most cherished assignments was during my six- year tenure with Swiss Re, where I led the performance SWOT team of software engineers responsible for managing various development life cycles. We focused on operating systems, databases, end-to-end user experience and performance optimisation to address the end need.” He believes that the culture at Swiss Re, which fostered growth and encouraged employees to take initiative, made this assignment unique.

Thumma believes in reverse engineering and top-level planning for an entire year. He tries to provide ample opportunities for his employees to grow and advance in their careers, recognising the benefits it brings both to them and the organisation. “I have a lot of experience in areas like cloud computing and digital transformation, and I enjoy helping firms create effective go-to-market strategies,” he says.

Keeping up with the latest technological advancements like 5G, IoT, AI and machine learning is something he considers extremely important. “By being open to transformation and constantly learning about the latest innovations, we can stay ahead of the curve and make the most of these technologies,” he adds.

Thumma completed his gra­du­ation in computer science fr­om Osmania University. Duri­ng his leisure time, he explores ways to promote rural entrepreneurship using emerging technologies. He has also undertaken the responsibility of two schools to promote education. He dedicates his weekends to his family, which comprises his wife and two children.
