Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has convened a meeting with telecom service providers and internet service providers to address the unauthorised installation of aerial cables in the city’s walled area, citing concerns over heritage preservation and visual aesthetics.
Officials said several aerial cables have been laid without approval, often strung irregularly across roads, creating safety risks for pedestrians and vehicles. Many cables were also found to be abandoned or damaged, adding to the deterioration of the area’s appearance.
Moreover, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited was asked to submit, within three days, a list of local operators that have leased cables in the heritage zone. All companies were instructed not to install any new aerial cables or undertake road crossings. The municipal body also ordered the removal of all unused or defunct cables from poles within seven days, warning that non-compliance would lead to the civic authority removing the cables at the operators’ cost.
