According to Fitch ratings, Reliance Jio’s fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services, Jio GigaFiber’s pricing scale and style will lead to an expansion of the broadband market and increase growth prospects for other operators, including Bharti Airtel.
This is because the home broadband penetration in India is well below 10 per cent whereas addressable homes are around 240-250 million, Fitch said.
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) had recently announced the launch of Jio GigaFiber services offering speeds from 100 Mbps up to 1 Gbps with prices ranging from Rs 700 to Rs 10,000 depending on usage.
The biggest competitor for Jio GigaFiber in the Indian telecom market is Bharti Airtel with its Airtel V-Fiber broadband service which offers speed of up to 100 Mbps.
