Reliance Jio is looking to tighten its grip on mid-segment consumers with ‘Jio Exclusive’ bundled smartphones, while compulsory installing Jio POS would extend its new commerce reach, UBS said in a note.

According to UBS, the move aligns with Jio’s subscriber growth strategy, which also includes the launch of JioPhone Next, bundled plans with attractive entry-level tariffs, as well as a strong focus on off-line handset sales.

JioPhone Next and Jio Exclusive smartphones incentivise Jio to extend its market reach by enticing the 300 million 2G subscribers of other telcos and existing JioPhone users to upgrade to ‘JioPhone Next’. Furthermore, the POS devices would extend new commerce opportunities to telecom retailers as well.
