The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) informed the Rajya Sabha that Reliance Jio had installed five times more 5G base transceiver stations (BTS) than Bharti Airtel as of November 2022.

In a written reply, minister of state for telecommunications, Devusinh Chauhan, said that the total number of 5G BTSs in the country was around 21,000 as of November 26, 2022, with most of them being in Delhi, Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Jio and Airtel are putting up nearly 2,500 base stations every week. However, the initial target by the government target is to install at least 10,000 base stations.
