Reliance Jio has filed an application of impleadment in the points of interconnection (PoI) case in Telecommunications Dispute Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT). With regard to this case, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Bharti Airtel had contested Department of Telecommunications’ penalties against them.
Earlier, Airtel and Vi had appealed in TDSAT against DoT’s demand of Rs 30.50 billion as cumulative penalties from the two telcos for allegedly denying PoIs to Jio, which affected quality of services, thus flouting license conditions.
PoIs are required for voice calls to go through from one network to another.
Following, Airtel and Vi’s appeal against DoT demand, the matter went up to the Digital Communications Commission (DCC) – which, while approving the penalties, had asked TRAI to review the amount, but the latter did not budge.
TDSAT will hear Jio’s views in December 15, 2021.
As things stand, Airtel, Vi and even the telecom department have opposed Jio’s application for impleadment.
