As per the latest data released by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel reported steady wireless customer gains in November 2021. Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi), on the other hand, suffered heavy customer losses mainly on the account of inability to offset the impact of sharp hikes in base prepaid tariffs taken in late-July.
As per TRAI data, Reliance Jio added 2.01 million wireless customers in November 2021, thereby taking its gross mobile user base to 428.61 million. Meanwhile, Airtel’s wireless userbase rose by 1.31 million to 355.29 million.
In contrast, Vi lost over 1.89 million customers in November 2021, reducing its total mobile user base to 267.12 million.
Meanwhile, India’s overall mobile user base witnessed a surge by 1.2 million to 1.167 billion during the period under consideration.
Besides, Jio and Airtel have also grown their rural mobile user bases to 185.89 million and 171.32 million respectively, while Vi’s has dipped further to 135.29 million as of November 2021. TRAI data also exhibited that Jio and Airtel have marginally widened their customer market shares to 36.71 per cent (from 36.58 per cent) and 30.43 per cent (from 30.35 per cent), respectively, in November 2021. Vi, in contrast, observed narrowing of its consumer market share to 22.88 per cent (from 23.07per cent).
