According to data released by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel increased the deployment of 5G base transceiver stations (BTS) by almost 42 per cent between March 19, 2023, and April 2, 2023, by deploying over 24,506 BTS . In comparison to this, telcos deployed 13,989 BTS between March 5, 2023 and March 19, 2023. This is a significant spike in BTS deployment by operators as compared to previous months.
As of now over 1,40,710 BTS have been launched for 5G services with the highest number in Maharashtra. Between March 19, 2023, and April 2, 2023, operators deployed the first BTSs in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. 33 5G BTSs were deployed in the union territory during the period.
