According to recent data by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio added more cellular subscribers than Bharti Airtel in February 2021. Further, Vodafone Idea added users for the first time in 15 months.

while Jio added 4.26 million wireless subscribers in February 2021, Airtel gained 3.73 million, followed by Vi’s modest subscriber addition of 0.65 million mobile users.

As per industry analysts, Jio’s user additions signalled strong consumer uptake of its recent offers on its 4G feature phone, JioPhone.

Also, visitor location register (VLR), a key metric reflecting the number of active subscribers on a mobile network, showed that 97.47 per cent of the users were active for Bharti Airtel, 90.61 per cent for Vi and 78.16 per cent for Jio.

Further, as per TRAI’s data, Jio and Airtel have widened customer market shares to 35.54 per cent and 29.83 per cent, respectively. Meanwhile, Vi’s market share has narrowed further to 24.20 per cent, as of February 2021.

As far as overall sectoral performance is concerned, India’s mobile user base increased by 8.29 million to 1.167 billion in February 2021, and the number of broadband users increased from 757.61 million to 765.09 million.

However, the wired broadband user base fell from 22.67 million to 22.26 million.
