Reliance Jio has alleged that Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) are fraudulently masquerading fixed landline numbers as mobile numbers to earn undue revenue through interconnect usage charges (IUC).

In a letter to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Jio has requested the regulator to penalise the incumbent telecom operators for violating various telecom regulations, which it claimed had cost Jio trillions and the government as well. Further, it has sought a refund of the termination charges it had paid to the incumbents due to the alleged fraud.

Rejecting the charges, Airtel added that Jio was trying to misguide the telecom regulator amid the ongoing consultation process on interconnect usage charge (IUC).
