Japan’s NTT DoCoMo has awarded a contract to Fujitsu to implement Nokia Siemens Networks’ (NSN) core long term evolution (LTE) platform. Fujitsu and NSN will jointly develop the service architecture evolution (SAE) gateway, including the serving gateway and the packet data node (PDN) gateway, for the project’s core. NTT DoCoMo has been conducting field trials and refining its LTE system using an outdoor testing environment near its research and development (R&D) lab in Yokosuka, south of Tokyo, since early 2008.
