
Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT), Japan’s top telecommunications company, has reported an 18.5 per cent dip in profits in the April-June 2006 quarter compared to the corresponding period in the previous year ?? from $1.55 billion to $1.3 billion ?? due to the continuing decline in income from its fixed line business. NTT also faced increasing costs for promoting its broadband internet services and mobile operations. However, quarterly sales increased 0.9 per cent to $22.9 billion in the quarter under review compared to a year earlier.
