J.S. Deepak has been appointed secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT). He has replaced Rakesh Garg, who has been moved to the minority affairs ministry. Deepak currently serves as secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology. He had successfully conducted the first ever e-auction of spectrum in 2010, which raised over Rs 1 trillion for the government and helped in creating a roadmap for future auctions. In the past, Deepak has served as additional secretary, commerce ministry and as joint secretary, DoT. His appointment is part of a restructuring exercise that included 10 secretary-level movements. Meanwhile, Aruna Sharma, a 1982 batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed IT secretary. She will take charge from Deepak.
