Kapil Sibal, Minister of Telecommunications and IT, has said that the growth of the telecom space would be impacted, if operators did not align their business plans with the country?s interests. He added that this may lead to over-regulation of the sector.

He emphasised that regulation was required to prevent the misuse of existing facilities, but over-regulation would hamper growth. He also asked operators to collaborate with each other and favoured sharing of spectrum between various players.

He said, ?It is time for us to consolidate the industry. We cannot afford 12-13 players in a circle. I think spectrum can be shared and I do not think that over-regulation is required.?
