
According to the report titled ‘Mobile Internet in India 2014? by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and IMRB International, the number of mobile Internet users in India are expected to increase from 173 million at the end of December 2014 to 213 million by June 2015. The report cited that the increase would be mainly driven by strong adoption of cheaper smartphones and affordable data plans in the country.
The report added that the rural regions are expected to account for 49 million mobile internet users by March 2015 and 53 million users by June 2015, growing at a rate of 33 per cent from October 2014. On the other hand, the urban users would continue to account for a large percentage of the mobile Internet users across the country with 143 million by March 2015 and 160 million by June 2015.
Meanwhile, the average monthly mobile bill in the country has increased by 13 per cent year on year to Rs 439. Out of the total bill, the proportion spent on mobile Internet has increased from 45 per cent in 2013 to 54 per cent in 2014.
Further, according to the report, the total Internet user base stood at 278 million at the end of October 2014 and is estimated to increase to 354 million by June 2015.
