Gurgaon-based instant messaging platform Nimbuzz is planning to tap opportunities in the Indian public Wi-Fi domain as states look to speed up rollout of such services in public areas. The company plans to launch products that will help pioneer mass adoption of Wi-Fi in India. The company?s management is of the view that severe spectrum crunch for data services will lead to public Wi-Fi taking on much of the load at the last mile level.

Nimbuzz was incorporated in late 2006 and received its first round of funding of $10 million in 2007. It currently processes over one billion voice over IP call minutes and over 100 billion messages per month, serving over 200 million users across 210 countries.
