German semiconductor manufacturing and design company Infineon Technologies has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) for workforce skilling and development in the semiconductor sector. Under the partnership, Infineon will work with NIELIT to develop training programmes in semiconductor assembly, test and packaging. This will include curriculum enrichment, expert seminars, “train the trainer” initiatives, and donation of equipment to enable hands-on practical training.

According to Infineon, by investing in talent development and knowledge transfer, the company aims to help build the skilled workforce required for India’s semiconductor ambitions and support the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Infineon further said it is supporting localised innovation through strategic investments, including its upcoming high-tech Bengaluru campus expected to be completed by 2026, and partnerships with local startups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). It added that these efforts are aimed at strengthening sectors such as electric mobility, the internet of things (IoT) and renewable energy.

Meanwhile, the prime minister’s office mentioned that leaders have welcomed progress in cooperation on critical and emerging technologies, including semiconductors, critical minerals, digitalisation, telecommunications, health and the bioeconomy, strengthening the innovation and technology partnership roadmap.

Further, prime minister of India and German chancellor expressed strong willingness to establish an institutional dialogue across the semiconductor value chain through a new “Joint Declaration of Intent on Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership”.

On the Indo-German Digital Dialogue, they both noted the finalisation of the “Work Plan for 2026-2027” and highlighted the importance of collaboration on internet and data governance, AI, semiconductors, Industry 4.0 and other emerging technologies.
