Indonesian mobile operator Indosat has selected NSN to enhance and upgrade its 3G networks and help the company reduce its carbon footprint. The network enhancement will enable the operator to offer subscribers data transmission speeds of up to 42 Mbps. As far as network upgradation is concerned, NSN is understood to have deployed an SGSN solution to ensure effective traffic offload. According to NSN, SGSN serves both 2G and 3G/HSPA users, and all (or any) 3G/HSPA users can also avail of the internet via an HSPA-enabled base station. The platform uses capacity dynamically to serve any given traffic mix without having to dedicate capacity or hardware to 2G or 3G.
