The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the telecom subscription data for the month of October 2019.  As per the data released, the number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,195.24 million in the quarter ended (QE) September 2019 to 1,204.85 million in the QE October 2019, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.80 per cent.

Urban telephone subscription increased from 677.95 million to 681.69 million during the same period. While, rural subscription also witnessed a rise from 517.29 million to 523.16 million in the period. The monthly growth rates of urban and rural subscription were 0.55 per cent and 1.14 per cent respectively.

Further, the overall tele-density in India increased from 90.52 per cent in QE September 2019 to 91.17 per cent in QE October 2019. Meanwhile, the urban tele-density also increased from 160.63 per cent to 161.27 per cent during the same period. Rural tele-density also witnessed an increase from 57.59 per cent to 58.21 per cent during the same period.

On the operators’ front, Reliance Jio added 9.1 million new subscribers in October 2019. Whereas, Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel added 189,901 and  81,974 new subscribers respectively during the period.
