According to Gartner, India is expected to increase spending on green IT and sustainability initiatives from $24.8 billion in 2012 to $29.2 billion in 2013.
A large number of businesses and investors in the country are recognising the advantages offered by green IT. Over the next few years, policy initiatives and regulatory measures from the Indian government in this space will be the key drivers for implementation of technologies such as advanced metering infrastructure, carbon capture and sequestration, an intelligent transportation system, and solar energy. The government support will bring in low-carbon sustainable growth for the country.
The research firm says that a few leading organisations in the country have started incorporating green IT and sustainability solutions in their business operations.
Currently, companies have a piecemeal approach towards green IT and sustainability measures. However, going forward, organisations are expected to recognise the real impact of green IT solutions on their growth, which will drive the adoption of sustainability measures by the companies.
