
According to a report released by IMRB and the Internet and Mobile Association of India, the internet user base in India increased from 120 million in 2012 to 200 million in October 2013, witnessing a growth of 40 per cent. By end-2013, the country?s internet user base is expected to reach 213 billion.
Out of the total 200 million internet users, about 103 million users are expected to access the internet on their mobile phones by end-2013. The increasing adoption of smartphone and low data tariffs are the key drivers for the exponential growth of the internet user base in India.
In addition, the report points out that following China and the US, India has the third largest internet user base. China has the largest number of internet users with a subscriber base of 300 million.
