According to Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, China’s loss in the electronics manufacturing space could be India’s gain in the ongoing pandemic. In a recent meeting with state IT ministers, Prasad said India can leverage this opportunity to promote electronics manufacturing and urged states to work towards attracting investments.

Meanwhile, the minister added that the government would extend Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) deadline on relaxation of norms for work from home for IT professionals from April 30, 2020 to July 31, 2020.

Further, the minister said that the states have been highly appreciative of Aarogya Setu app, and a similar solution for feature phones is in the works and will be launched shortly. He also asked the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to explore the possibility of integrating a system for issuing ePass during lockdown with Aarogya Setu app.

Addressing the issues of fake news, Prasad added that the government is monitoring online media platforms’ compliance with the government’s call to remove and monitor fake news and misinformation.
