As per Ashwini Vaishnaw, union minister for communications, electronics and IT and railways, India is on the verge of developing its own 5G network and the country is simultaneously participating in the development of 6G standards.

By March 2022, the government expects the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to send in its recommendations on crucial aspects of the 5G spectrum auctions, following which the sale of airwaves will be held in 2022 to facilitate 5G services rollout in 2023.

Meanwhile, K. Rajaraman, secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT), further informed that the indigenous 4G stack will be rolled out in a few months as the testing is in final stages.

Vaishnaw further underlined that India has emerged as a major electronics manufacturing hub, with electronics manufacturing of close to $75 billion, growing at a rate of 20 per cent compounded annually.
