According to a report by CLSA, India’s 4G feature phone shipments increased 63 per cent during the third quarter (Q3) of fiscal year 2024 (FY24), led by Reliance Industries Limited’s JioBharat 4G phone.
As per the report, feature phone shipments were up 15 per cent quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) to 20 million in Q3 FY24. 4G feature phone shipments were up by 63 per cent QoQ to 8.2 million mainly due to JioBharat fuelling growth.
Meanwhile, the report finds that India’s 5G smartphone shipments were at 23.6 million, down 6 per cent QoQ of total smartphone shipments with continued 5G service rollouts.
Further, the share of Chinese handsets was up 1 ppt QoQ to 68 per cent but was 9 ppt lower than the peak share of 77 per cent in Q4 FY20. Xiaomi’s share at 19 per cent was up 2 ppt QoQ and flat YoY. Apple’s share with 2.8 million 5G smartphones was at a new all-time high of 7 per cent as compared to 6 per cent in Q2 FY24.
