According to the Union Minister of Communication and Development of Northeast Region, Indian telecom equipment exports to the United States are expected to stay competitive even after the imposition of additional tariffs. Official data shows that telecom equipment worth approximately Rs 850 billion has been manufactured under the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme, with Rs 160 billion worth of products exported to various international markets.

Government and industry sources indicated that the Indian electronics sector has a window of about two weeks before the proposed tariffs take effect, owing to the pending review of a critical section under ongoing bilateral trade negotiations.

The US President recently announced a 25 per cent tariff on all imports from India starting August 1, 2025.
