The IndiaAI Independent Business Division (IBD) has announced the IndiaAI innovation challenge as a part of the applications development initiative within the IndiaAI mission, which seeks to advance the development, deployment, and adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in critical sectors. It is aimed at promoting the scaling and adoption of impactful AI solutions to enable large-scale socio-economic transformation.
The IndiaAI innovation challenge invites participation from Indian innovators, startups, non-profits, students, academic and research organisations, as well as companies. Winners of this challenge will be awarded up to Rs 10 million and will have the opportunity to implement their solutions on a national scale.
The challenge highlights several key focus areas along with indicative use cases:
• Healthcare: This includes improving diagnostics and patient care, utilising AI for early disease detection through enhanced X-ray technology, strengthening outcomes in ophthalmology, and enhancing surveillance for vector-borne diseases.
• Improved governance: The aim here is to leverage AI-driven language technologies to improve accessibility to public services and streamline grievance redressal processes.
• Agriculture: This area focuses on empowering farmers with AI-assisted crop advisory services, promoting financial inclusion, and utilising geospatial analytics to enhance food security.
• Assistive technology for learning disabilities: Innovations in this category will work towards the early detection of specific learning disabilities, the development of enhanced multimedia accessibility tools, and gamified learning experiences.
• Climate change and disaster management: The challenge aims to implement AI-driven early warning systems and multi-hazard susceptibility mapping to better address climate-related challenges.
Further, this initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision of utilising AI for inclusive growth. The implementation agency for this mission is IndiaAI, an independent business division under the Digital India Corporation (DIC) within the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The IndiaAI mission seeks to democratise AI’s benefits across all segments of society, enhance India’s global leadership in AI, foster technological self-reliance, and ensure the ethical and responsible use of AI.
The deadline for application submission is September 30, 2024.
