According to Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Railways has said that India will get 5G services by March 2023. The statement comes soon after the cabinet’s approval of the 5G spectrum auction.

The minister further stated that the auction would be completed by end-July 2022.

A total of 72 GHz of spectrum is set to be put to auction.

According to the Ministry of Communications, it is expected that the mid and high-band spectrum will be utilised by telecom operators to roll out 5G technology-based services capable of delivering 10 times higher speed and capacities as compared to the 4G services.

Vaishnaw informed that after the auction, the government would have consultations with telecom operators and implement 5G services as soon as possible.
