According to the additional secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), India plans to shift from 28-nanometre (nm) fabs to manufacturing advanced 5-7 nm chips.

The goal of the government’s investments in the semiconductor industry is to catch up to the world’s top chip manufacturers and facilitating India’s participation in the artificial intelligence revolution as much as about manufacturing.
